Alter Eco was founded in 2011 by Richard Roaf.

After earning a degree in Philosophy from University College and a Masters in Leadership for Sustainable Development in London he moved into film making as a way of influencing and informing change. He has built an expertise in why people share videos online, and notable applied during the 2015 Paris climate talks to create videos that were shared over 200,000 times on Facebook, overtaking Obama by creating the most watched Facebook video on the first day of the talks. Alter Eco has created videos for organisations including Greenpeace UK, The World Bank, The Labour Party, Amnesty International, 350.org, Friends of the Earth, 38 Degrees and SumOfUs. In just one year Alter Eco created videos that were shared over one million times and seen over 50 million times
